| Carefree and Cave Creek Carefree
and Cave Creek are next door neighbors
situated about 20 miles north of Phoenix at an elevation
of 2,500 feet, each with its own unique personality.
They represent the slower, laid back lifestyle that
one expects when thinking of Arizona; juxtaposing
the old west side by side with urban sophistication.
Their combined population is 6,712 and their economies
center around the tourism and service industries.
As such, they feature many unique shopping and dining
opportunities as well as beautiful resorts and quaint
Bed & Breakfasts.

Cave Creek was settled in the 1870s but did not become
incorporated as a municipality until 1986! Its fiercely
independent spirit is reflected in the still down-to-earth
residents who are civic minded and active in the community.
Cave Creek’s western tradition is evident in
its southwestern architecture and ranch style homes.
It is here that you’ll find small horse ranches.
Unlike Cave Creek, Carefree dates back to only the
1950s. It is one of the earliest planned communities
in Arizona. Carefree has gained a reputation for its
beauty, with unique rock outcroppings and boulders
visible for miles, its celebrity residents and visitors,
and its shopping and recreational amenities, with
art galleries, cultural events, unique shops and restaurants.
Carefree also boasts one of the largest sundials in
the Western Hemisphere! Carefree’s homes feature
large lot sizes, while conserving open space and making
use of “desert friendly” landscaping.
Custom homes blend into the rocks and surrounding
mountains.
Due to the 2,500 foot elevation, temperatures here
are ten to fifteen degrees cooler than in Phoenix,
making outdoor activities popular. The landscape is
teeming with Saguaros, massive boulders and wildlife.
People seeking to live among nature with city lights
far off in the distance will find Carefree and Cave
Creek ideal destinations.
